A VIDEO promoting mental health and wellbeing has been to coincide with so-called Blue Monday – often labelled the most depressing day of the year.
The third Monday in January – today – is widely associated with low mood, as post-Christmas financial pressures, failed New Year’s resolutions and dark winter days combine to dampen spirits.
Produced by Wiltshire Public Health, the video offers practical, accessible advice to help people boost their mood and look after mental wellbeing.
It focuses on the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ and highlights services and support available to residents.
Cabinet member for public health and co-ordination with the NHS Cllr Clare Cape said: “We’re launching our mental health and wellbeing video and hoping to change the narrative by supporting wellbeing and contributing to brightening the dark January days.
“Mental health is just as important as our physical health, it shapes how we think, feel, and cope with life’s challenges.
“Our new video provides practical advice around the five ways to wellbeing and signposting – from self-care and local activities and support to professional help for issues that affect mental health day to day.”

Cllr. Clare Cape
Cllr Cape added that winter blues during the darker months was something she had experienced herself and praised the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ as a simple but effective approach.
The tips include connecting with others, staying active with short daylight walks, taking notice of seasonal changes, learning something new at a manageable pace and giving support to neighbours or loved ones.
More information on wellbeing activities and local support groups is available on the Wiltshire Council website.
The video can be viewed on the council’s YouTube channel.
