Brass band success as Salisbury Salvation Army fills the hall

EXTRA chairs had to be brought out at short notice as music lovers flocked to a recent free concert hosted by Salisbury Salvation Army.

The event, staged as a thank you to the many people who support the charity’s work throughout the year, saw young musicians perform to a packed audience.

The band was made up of Salvation Army members from across the southern counties, with some travelling many miles at their own expense to take part.

Captain Martin Davison, leader of Salisbury Salvation Army, said he was delighted to see so many families in attendance.

“‘It was good to see so many children and young people in the audience for the concert,” he said.

“It shows that brass band music is still popular and who knows, some of those young people who attended may learn to play instruments themselves one day after being inspired by the concert.”

The event was organised to recognise the many people who support the Salvation Army’s community and social work in Salisbury, as well as the volunteers who give their time and talents to help others.

“We are so blessed to be trusted and supported in this way,” added Capt. Martin. “We are entirely self- funded and don’t take this for granted, it’s humbling to receive the goodwill we get from our friends in the area and other charities and churches.”

Hospitality for the visiting musicians included a buffet lunch, with food donated by the city’s Marks and Spencer store.

Following the success of the afternoon, organisers have confirmed that another concert is already being planned for early next year.
