1,500 PEOPLE in Salisbury reportedly contacted police about sexual violence in 2024, a charity has revealed.
The shocking statistics were revealed by the CEO of national charity First Light, Tom Godwin, who was invited to a recent meeting of Salisbury Rotary Club to explain more about his charity’s work.
First Light operate across England and Wales and offers support for anyone experiencing or having experienced domestic abuse or sexual violence.
This includes people of all ages and genders, including people with a disability and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

A spokesperson for the Rotary Club said: “Some of the statistics provided by Tom, really opened people’s eyes on a subject that we know is around but don’t actually come across and seldom talk about.

“In 2024, 1,500 people in Salisbury contacted the police about sexual violence. Only one in six of those people contacted First Light and only 2% of sexual violence cases result in an actual conviction.”
Their mission is to work together to build safer lives free from domestic abuse and sexual violence by educating and preventing through early intervention, training and campaigning and protecting and supporting through the provision of services to help safeguard and reach out to those experiencing domestic abuse and sexual violence.
The charity seeks to give a voice to those who suffer in silence and influencing others to bring about positive change and raise awareness and train GPs, hospital staff, schools and police forces in handling domestic abuse situations.
