Christmas concert double bill at cathedral this month

FAMILIES can enjoy a magical double bill designed to enchant all audiences when Carrot Productions brings its much-loved Christmas concert to Salisbury Cathedral.

Audiences can enjoy the BAFTA-winning classic The Snowman™ with live orchestra, performed alongside the company’s specially commissioned animated version of Peter and the Wolf on Friday, December 19.

Created in collaboration with Georgian 2D animator and animation director Tsotne Rusishvili, Peter and the Wolf presents a vibrant and contemporary reimagining of Prokofiev’s timeless tale, underpinned by a newly arranged score by Daniel Whibley.

Paired with the enduring charm of The Snowman™, the concert offers a warm, family-friendly festive experience full of music, storytelling and seasonal atmosphere.

Ahead of the concert, ticketholders will receive a special video from musician and presenter Sean Chandler, teaching them how to sign Walking in the Air using British Sign Language.

This welcoming and accessible addition allows families to learn the signs if they wish and use them during the massed rendition of the song at the end of the performance.

A professional orchestra drawn from the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, BBC Concert Orchestra and more will perform both works live.

As part of the tour, three exceptionally talented young choristers, 12-year-old Oscar Salomon, 11-year-old Harry Groome, and 12-year-old Matilda Macmillan, will each perform Walking in the Air, giving them a rare opportunity to sing with a professional orchestra in one of the region’s most spectacular venues.

Managing director of Carrot Productions Rachel Whibley said: “Performing this concert in Salisbury Cathedral is set to be a truly moving experience. The combination of the live orchestra, our animations, and the incredible atmosphere of the Cathedral creates something very special.

“We’re thrilled to be joined this year by Oscar, Harry and Matilda; their performances bring such joy to the moment. And with audiences receiving Sean Chandler’s signing video ahead of the show, it feels like a wonderfully inclusive way to begin the festivities together.”

At the end of each performance, audiences will also be invited to join Classic FM’s Big Christmas Chorus, singing Walking in the Air with the orchestra to raise funds for Global’s Make Some Noise charity.
