Deadline for council tax e-billing approaches

WILTSHIRE Council is urging residents to sign up for council tax e-billing before February 23 to ensure they receive their 2026/27 bill electronically.

The authority says switching to e-billing offers a faster, more convenient and environmentally friendly way to manage council tax.

Residents who opt in will receive email notifications as soon as their bill is available, removing the need to wait for postal delivery.

Statements can be accessed at any time on a computer, tablet or smartphone, and users can track and manage payments online.

Optional reminder prompts are also available for those who do not pay by direct debit.

The council says moving away from paper bills will help reduce waste and carbon emissions, while also cutting printing and postage costs.

It adds that digital billing is secure and avoids the risk of paper bills being delayed, misplaced or lost.

Wiltshire Council has also refreshed its online council tax portal to improve usability.

In addition to registering for e-bills, residents can print their bill, set up or amend direct debits, report a house move, check their council tax band and apply for discounts.

Anyone who signs up after February 23 will still be able to use the online portal, but their digital bills will begin from 2027 rather than 2026.

Cabinet member for communities, engagement and corporate services Cllr Mel Jacob said: “Signing up for e-billing is one of the simplest ways residents can make managing their council tax quicker and greener.

“Now is the perfect time to make the switch for this year’s bill to arrive digitally.

“E-billing is secure, convenient and helps reduce our environmental impact, while also lowering the council’s printing and postage costs. Costs that we can then re-direct to other essential services.

“We encourage anyone who can, to join the thousands of residents already benefiting from receiving their bills digitally.”

Residents can register online via the council’s website.
