Dozens of families receive seasonal hampers thanks to initiative

A GREENGROCER and butcher in Salisbury teamed up with the city’s foodbank to ensure that 100 families could enjoy a festive meal.

Salisbury Foodbank, with help from Central Fruits and Pritchetts Family Butchers, distributed fresh hampers of fresh vegetables, prepared turkey breasts and all the essentials needed for a memorable holiday meal.

Manager at Salisbury Foodbank Maria Stevenson said the season was “about coming together and sharing kindness”.

She added: “Thanks to the generosity of our supporters we are able fund this project and partner with local business, we can give families not just food, but the experience of a traditional Christmas meal celebration.

“When I sat around the table on Christmas Day with my family, I took a moment to think about all the people we were able to help throughout the year, but especially those who we were able to help with this project.”

Charles from Pritchett’s said they were “delighted” to help Salisbury Foodbank again.

He added: “Last year was our first year helping out their Christmas dinner deliveries along with Central Fruits, it’s lovely to be able to help give something back to the local community, we received great feedback last year and it really is heartwarming!”

Matt from Central Fruits commented: “Being out and about delivering these parcels for the foodbank is humbling, we see many grateful families throughout the year but at Christmas time is extra special, extra humbling.

“One of our drivers, Mark, went to the door and the lady was in tears, he spends a little bit of extra time and attention talking with people to make sure they feel appreciated and know someone out there does care. But the main thing is giving back.”

The foodbank said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to supporting people in need and spreading joy during a challenging time for some.
