Dream come true as care home resident takes to the ice

A PENSIONER from Salisbury has fulfilled a lifelong dream after taking to the ice and proving that age is no barrier to unforgettable experiences.

Jennis, 77, a resident at Avonbourne Care Centre, enjoyed the specially arranged ice-skating visit organised by the dedicated care team – part of their commitment to personalised, person-centred care.

Staff worked closely with Planet Ice Basingstoke to ensure the experience was fully accessible, making thoughtful adaptations so Jennis could safely enjoy the thrill of gliding across the rink.

For many care home residents, ice skating represents a cherished childhood memory or a long-held ambition that once felt out of reach.

Jennis is having a great time!

With the support of compassionate carers and inclusive community partners, these aspirations are now becoming a reality.

In some cases, residents even take to the ice in wheelchairs, allowing them to experience the excitement and freedom of skating once more.

The visit was filled with smiles, laughter and emotional moments, creating lasting memories for Jennis, care staff and fellow visitors alike.

Wahoo!

Home manager Kamila Bevan said: “Making dreams come true is at the heart of what we do.

“This experience shows how personalised care, creativity and community support can help people continue to enjoy life, whatever their age or abilities.”

Avonbourne Care Centre continues to champion enriching activities that promote wellbeing, dignity and joy, showing it is never too late for dreams to come true.
