Drink driver leaves road and collides with tree after wedding

POLICE have been highlighting ongoing national campaign Operation Limit to tackle drink and drug driving.

Officers were called to the Amesbury area yesterday to a serious incident involving a vehicle that left the road and collided with a tree following a wedding.

The driver failed to provide a breath test at the roadside and again in custody, openly stating he knew he was over the limit.

He was remanded to court and convicted.

A police spokesman said: “The impact of this incident could have been far worse. The crash happened close to a busy venue and it’s only by chance that no one else was injured.

“This is a stark reminder of the very real risks posed by drink and drug driving. If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, please report it.

“Driving under the influence is never worth the risk.”

Officers also stopped a lorry driver on the M4 yesterday as part of proactive patrols and a roadside drugs wipe showed a positive result for cannabis.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody, where blood samples were taken.

He has now been released under investigation, pending the results.

Wiltshire Police say to call 101, report online or dial 999 in an emergency.
