Emergency protocol implemented as temperatures plunge

THE Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has been activated for Wiltshire until Wednesday as temperatures continue to plummet.

The decision has been actioned by Wiltshire Council, with emergency provision provided at Alabaré Place in Salisbury.

SWEP provides emergency support for rough sleepers when the temperatures are expected to drop below 0 degrees for three consecutive nights or more.

The protocol aims to ensure that vulnerable people are protected and provided for during severe weather, which can mean essential overnight accommodation.

People should contact StreetLink who will ask them to provide information such as a specific location for the rough sleeping site and any information about the rough sleeper that will help find them.

If you are concerned about someone rough sleeping, over the age of 18, or if you are struggling yourself, you can speak to an outreach worker by via www.streetlink.org.uk or by calling 0300 500 0914.

If it is believed that a rough sleeper is aged under 18, is in immediate danger or needs urgent care, people are advised to call 999.
