Fire service urges communities to speak out on station closures

DORSET and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has urged communities to share their views as proposals for eight potential fire station closures are considered.

In a statement on social media, the service acknowledged that the discussions are “highly emotive and difficult” for affected residents and staff but stressed that no final decisions have been made.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that stations in Ramsbury, Bradford-on-Avon, Wilton, Mere, Cranborne, Hamworthy, Maiden Newton and Charmouth could close.

The Fire Authority is due to meet on February 10  to decide whether to open a public consultation on any of the proposed closures.

If approved, the consultation would run for 13 weeks, from February 13 to May 15.

DWFRS emphasised the importance of community engagement, saying: “It’s important that your views are shared through this independent process so that they can be considered by the Fire Authority when they make their final decision at their meeting on 30 June.”

The consultation will feature both an online questionnaire and public events at the potentially impacted stations.

Residents are encouraged to follow the service’s Facebook page or visit its website for full details on how to participate once the consultation opens.

The service reassured communities that it is committed to keeping the public informed and ensuring that the voices of those who live and work in the affected areas are heard.
