Freddie the horse rescued from ditch in Amesbury

A HORSE which found itself stuck in a cold water-filled ditch in Amesbury was rescue by firefighters last week.

Fire and rescue crews from Amesbury and Winchester teamed up with the technical rescue team from Stratton last Friday night (October 24) to help rescue Freddie from a ditch in Porton Road – who was lovingly nicknamed Mr Mercury by the teams.

Freddie struggled to free himself from the approximately five foot five inch deep ditch but was eventually reunited with his owner thanks to the hard work by crews.

A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “With the understanding that the ‘show must go on’, the specialist teams from across Wiltshire and Hampshire used animal rescue equipment to successfully free Freddie into the waiting arms of his owner.

“We’re sure that Freddie is another ‘champion’ in the making and he is now recovering well at home after his rather adventurous evening!”
