Inspectors demand more work on council’s countywide planning document

WILTSHIRE Council has provided an update on the Wiltshire Local Plan, currently being examined by Planning Inspectors.

Local Plans, prepared by a local planning authority in consultation with the community, set out a vision and framework for the future development of an area.

As part of the examination process, Inspectors wrote to the council, requiring further work before the Plan can move forward.

The council has responded, confirming resources and governance are in place to complete the work as quickly as possible.

A proposed Programme of Work has been submitted to Inspectors, setting out how the council will address the identified actions.

The council says adoption of the Local Plan is now expected in 2027 but emphasises its commitment to completing the remaining work promptly and efficiently.

Cabinet member for strategic planning Cllr Adrian Foster said: “We remain fully committed to working collaboratively with the Inspectors to deliver a sound, effective and adoptable Local Plan for Wiltshire and we welcome their feedback as part of the process.

“We will report progress through our monthly updates as requested by the Inspectors.”

The council’s full response is available on the examination webpage and further updates will be provided as appropriate.
