Major city route to shut for overnight gas works

DRIVERS are being warned of significant overnight disruption on one of Salisbury’s busiest routes this evening as part of essential gas works.

SGN has confirmed the A36 Southampton Road eastbound will be closed from 8pm tonight (Tuesday, February 17) until 7am tomorrow (Wednesday, February 18).

The closure will affect traffic travelling from the Wiltshire College roundabout along the A36 towards Southampton, stretching past Currys and the entrance to the Southampton Road Retail Shopping Centre.

There will be no through access during these hours, including for vehicles turning left into Tollgate Road.

SGN said engineers will be carrying out gas main disconnection works outside Currys and the retail park entrance.

As a result, all customers and staff using the car park must leave by 8pm, when access will be completely shut.

There will be no vehicle access in or out of the site until the road reopens at 7am.

Pedestrian and cycle access will remain in place throughout the works.

Bus services operating along the route will also be affected between 8pm and 7am, with passengers advised to contact their service providers for the latest updates.

SGN apologised for the disruption and said the work is necessary to maintain the gas network.
