Man who deliberately drove at pedestrian in Salisbury and rammed police car jailed

ASHLEY Sherred has been jailed for more than six years after he broke a pedestrian’s leg when he drove deliberately into him in Salisbury.

He was also sentenced for a separate incident that saw him ram a police car after he tried to flee officers.

Sherred, 33 and of Southampton Road, was seen driving a blue Ford Fiesta recklessly in Pinewood Close, Bemerton Heath, on May 10 doing wheel spins and handbrake turns.

The victim, a man in his 40s, came out of his property to see what was happening and took issue with Sherred’s driving.

Sherred then deliberately mounted the pavement and crashed into the victim.

He then left the scene but was found by officers later the same day and was arrested.

The vehicle was found the following day in a residential road.

He appeared at Salisbury Crown Court today (August 8) after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving.

He was also sentenced for dangerous driving in relation to a separate incident, where he fled from police and rammed a police vehicle.

He was jailed for six years and ten months. He has also been disqualified from driving for four years from when he is released.

In a separate incident, on August 31 last year, an intoxicated Sherred was spotted by Salisbury City Watch CCTV in a Honda CR-V on Milford Street.

After failing to stop for officers after being spotted near Fisherton Street, Sherred then drove to Bemerton Heath and then Wilton, driving recklessly and on one occasion colliding with a fence.

He was tracked to Dairyhouse Bridge Caravan Site.

Officers located the vehicle, at which point Sherred reversed into the officers’ vehicle multiple times in an effort to escape.

He then decamped from the car and fled over a barbed wire fence out of the site. He was pursued by officers and located around 15 metres away in thick shrubbery, where he was arrested.

Sherred was jailed for both incidents today (August 8).

Investigating officer DC Dan Smith from South CID said: “Sherred’s actions in Bemerton Heath in May have left the innocent victim with significant injuries and I’m pleased Sherred now faces justice for his actions that day.

“The victim simply wanted to speak with him in relation to Sherred’s antisocial driving in a quiet, residential part of Salisbury, and Sherred has instead used his vehicle as a weapon to collide with him.

“The victim suffered a significant leg injury but it could have been much worse.

“I would like to thank the victim and the wider public for their support with that investigation, which has seen Sherred brought before the court today.

Sherred was also sentenced for an incident in Salisbury last year, when he drove a vehicle across Salisbury heavily intoxicated before ramming a police vehicle, leaving the officer in fear for his own safety.

“During that incident, he failed to stop for officers, collided with a fence, drove the wrong way down a one-way street and had several near misses, before eventually decamping from his vehicle, when he was arrested.

“We will not tolerate driving and violence like this in Wiltshire.”
