THE mayor of Wilton who resigned from her position this morning has released a statement thanking the community for its support.
Cllr Alexandra Boyd was elected in May 2025 but has had to relinquish mayoral responsibilities due to ill health.
She said: “It is with deep reflection and considerable reluctance that I announce my decision to step down from the role of mayor of Wilton due to ongoing health challenges.
“This has not been an easy decision, nor one taken lightly. Serving as mayor has been an immense honour, and representing our town and its residents has been a privilege I will always cherish.
“I will not be resigning as a town councillor. I remain fully committed to the projects we have begun together, and I will continue to work hard on behalf of our community.
“I will still be present, engaged, and available to our residents, ensuring continuity and support during this transition.
“All funds raised for Seeds4Success will be presented to them in due course, and I remain deeply appreciative of the generosity shown by everyone who contributed to this important cause.”
Cllr Boyd extended “heartfelt thanks” to her fellow councillors and dedicated town council staff.
She added: “The role of mayor is not about promoting one’s own voice, but about listening to the voices of the people we serve.
“It is about understanding what our residents need, representing their wishes, and doing so with neutrality, integrity and respect.
“This principle has guided me throughout my time as mayor, and it will continue to guide me in my ongoing work as councillor.
“Thank you for your understanding, your trust and your continued support.
“It has been an honour to serve as your mayor, and I look forward to continuing to serve Wilton in the months and years ahead.”
