More roadworks planned for Salisbury in new year

REISDENTS living between Wilton and Salisbury are bracing themselves for nearly five months of roadworks.

I&G Utilities, on behalf of SGN, is replacing old metal gas mains and services with new plastic pipes on Wilton Road from January 5 until May 29.

The road will be closed to through traffic from J A360 to J A3094.

Just a fortnight later, National Highways begins a £23 million project to upgrade the A36 through the city, on January 19, with day lane closures beginning from February 2 at the Caste roundabout.

Locals have taken to social media to raise their concerns.

Leon Weedon commented: “I pray Wiltshire Council and highways have a plan how the traffic from the villages west of Salisbury will get into Salisbury.”

Christine Richardson noted: “The persistent problems with the current gas pipes have caused so many issues that the road outside my house has been dug up at least six times in the past two years. It will be very inconvenient with the road closed.”

Sharon Cahill said: “Harnham’s gas works is happening all over Christmas and won’t be finished till March. It’s ridiculous trying to get round in Salisbury.”

Liddy Thomson added: “We had the same letter in west Harnham a while ago, they’re doing a lot of Salisbury. The lights and disruption are major!”
