MP John Glen Says Putin ‘Culpable’ for Salisbury Novichok Attack After Inquiry Outcome

SALISBURY MP John Glen has blamed Putin for the 2018 Novichok attack following the Dawn Sturgess Inquiry result.

He told members in the House of Commons that yesterday’s report was necessary to understand who was responsible and remember its “huge impact on Salisbury”.

“The report is very clear about where culpability lies: it lies with President Putin,” said Mr Glen. “Russia was responsible, and Putin as an individual was responsible.

“He personally ordered what happened in Salisbury, and we should never forget it.

“Putin is a ruthless dictator, not someone with whom deals can be done.

“I welcome what the minister said on additional sanctions.”

Mr Glen questioned the lack of regular written assessments regarding the ongoing care of Sergei Skripal.

He said: “I think that is the only element that needs serious review for individuals like him in future, but I thank the minister again for the way he has spoken today, which will give huge comfort to my constituents in Salisbury and to the families of those so tragically affected.”

Security minister Dan Jarvis said he would investigate Mr Glen’s request and commended the MP for his service to Salisbury during and since the incident: “I know that it will be hugely appreciated across the House, and certainly in the great city of Salisbury and across the wider great county of Wiltshire.”
