Weather warning issued for heavy rain in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire this week

FLOODING could hit homes in North Dorset, South Somerset and parts of Wiltshire this week as a weather warning was issued for the region.

The Met Office has issued the yellow weather warning, in place from 9pm on Wednesday (January 11) to 5pm the following day.

“Persistent heavy rain will affect parts of Southwest England and Wales through Wednesday night and Thursday,” a forecaster said.

Under a yellow warning, the Met Office says:

Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely

* Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer

* Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

* Some interruption to power supplies and other services is possible

On Wednesday, the forecaster added: “Feeling cool with blustery showers and sunny spells, showers heavy at times with a risk of hail and thunder.

“Strong winds throughout.”

And on Thursday, into Friday and the weekend, strong winds and blustery showers would continue.

“Further persistent rain on Thursday, this clearing during the afternoon to sunshine and showers,” they said.

“Cooler on Friday and Saturday with blustery showers continuing. Strong winds throughout.”
