Open doors and open hearts at Amesbury church this New Year’s Day

AS THE New Year begins, the Methodist Church in Amesbury is opening its doors to offer warmth and companionship to anyone who may be feeling alone over the festive period.

With the foodbank closed during the holidays, the church on High Street is inviting people to drop in for free hot drinks, cakes and snacks, as well as a safe, welcoming space to spend time with others or simply to sit and rest.

The church will be open on New Year’s Day – Thursday – from 1pm to 3pm.

Volunteers say the aim is to make sure no one feels they have to face the season on their own.

In a message shared on social media, the church said it recognises that this time of year can be difficult for some people and wants to provide a place where anyone can warm up, enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate and have something to eat.

There is no charge and no expectation – people are welcome whether they want company, conversation or simply a quiet place to be.

The initiative comes as many community services reduce hours over the festive period, leaving some residents isolated or struggling.

By keeping its doors open, the Methodist Church hopes to offer reassurance, comfort and a sense of belonging at a time when it can matter most.

Residents are being encouraged to share the message and let friends, neighbours and anyone who might benefit know that a friendly welcome will be waiting in Amesbury this New Year’s Day.
