AN AMBASSADOR for homelessness charity ALABARÉ has been appointed a peer in the House of Lords.
Dr Sophy Antrobus MBE, who lives in Salisbury, is the senior research fellow and the co-director of the Freeman Air and Space Institute at King’s College London
She also served in the Royal Air Force for 20 years, completing operational tours in the Republic of Congo, Iraq and Afghanistan, before earning a PhD in Air Power.
She lectured in strategic studies, being named as a fellow of the learned society board of the Royal Aeronautical Society and took part in the government’s Strategic Defence Review.
Sophy has been nominated to become a Baroness, officially beginning her role from January 2026.
Her citation from the government points out her advocacy in the fields of homelessness and domestic violence as a reason for being chosen.
Dr Antrobus has been an ambassador for ALABARÉ for the last five years, promoting and raising awareness of the charity’s work.
Chief executive Andrew Lord said: “I am so pleased for Sophy as she’s been appointed as a Labour peer in the House of Lords. It’s a hugely prestigious role, and I know it’s one she’ll relish and enjoy in equal measure.
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for ALABARÉ to become more well-known at Westminster, as Sophy spreads the word about our mission to break the cycle of homelessness at the very heart of Government.
“We’re very proud to have her as an ambassador and delighted to see her being recognised in this way. We wish her the best of luck in the new role in the New Year.”
