Police thank communities in Christmas message

WILTSHIRE Police has released an open letter from Supt James Brain and Supt Mike Vass ahead of Christmas.

It said: “We would like to wish everyone in our communities a safe, peaceful and happy season.

“Please be assured that Wiltshire Police officers and staff continue to work tirelessly over this period, around the clock, to respond to emergencies, investigate crime and provide a reassuring presence on our streets.

“We are committed to keeping everyone safe this Christmas and will continue to robustly pursue offenders, drive down crime and actively pursue wanted persons.

“If you know you are wanted, understand that we will not rest until you are detained – come forward before you receive a knock at the door.

“If you are tempted to drink or drug drive, it is likely you will be caught and you can expect to be dealt with robustly – there is never an excuse and you are putting yourself, your passengers and other members of the public at risk of death or serious injury.

“This is a time of joy and companionship for most but we also understand that many people, especially the elderly, may struggle with loneliness and isolation at this time.

“Keep an eye on your neighbours and report any concerns. Support is available for those in need – please do reach out for help.

“Thank you to our communities for your ongoing support over the year – we police with the consent of the public and our job would not be possible without this.

“While recognising that not everyone celebrates Christmas, we hope this winter period provides an opportunity for everyone to pause, reflect, and spend time with those closest to them.

“For those who do celebrate, we wish you a very Merry Christmas.”
