A NATIONAL initiative aimed at getting more women involved in motorsport is set to return to Gurston Down Hillclimb near Salisbury this spring.
The British Women Racing Drivers’ Club (BWRDC) has confirmed that its IntoSpeed programme will be back this year, with a dedicated Taster Day taking place at Gurston Down on Tuesday, April 7.
The event is designed to introduce women to competitive motorsport in a supportive and accessible way, with a particular focus on the hillclimb discipline.
Hillclimbing is one of the most approachable forms of motorsport, with drivers taking on a timed run along a narrow, twisting tarmac course – often likened to a country lane against the clock.
The IntoSpeed Taster Day is open to women aged 18 and over, with no previous experience required.

Participants will be guided through the fundamentals of motorsport, including safety procedures, timing and building confidence behind the wheel, before getting the chance to drive the Gurston Down course itself.
To keep costs down, helmets are provided and attendees can use their own road cars.
Helen Allen, chair of the BWRDC, said: “With the support of Motorsport UK we are proud to have created this programme to take women through the sport from the very early stages to their first competition.
“We are thrilled to continue this for 2026 and look forward to introducing more women to the Hillclimbing discipline, in the south west.
“Whether it’s taking part in our women-only groups/taster days, with expert driver tuition from experienced instructors, through to competing at events, we will guide you through.”

The IntoSpeed programme reflects a wider push to increase female participation across motorsport, supported by funding from Motorsport UK.
Hillclimbing has been chosen as the focus due to its accessibility and the opportunity for competitors to take part using everyday road cars at venues across the UK.
Spaces for the Gurston Down Taster Day are limited. The cost is £195, which includes lunch and refreshments, and participants are welcome to attend alone or with a friend.
