Report suspicious or predatory behaviour and bring offenders to justice, say police

POLICE have released a video encouraging women and girls to report any suspicious or predatory behaviour that makes them feel uncomfortable.

A spokesman said: “We appreciate that reporting information about a situation that made you feel uncomfortable or distressed can feel intimidating or scary.

“We want you to know that any information you give us will be looked into by our specialist analysts and researchers.

“You do not need to know lots of information, such as someone’s name, we just need you to tell us a summary of the incident and any other details that might help us identify an offender.

“The piece of information you have might be the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle to help us link a crime to an offender and bring an offender to justice.”

Examples of predatory behaviour police would be interested to hear about includes:

  • Loitering in doorways, alleyways or on the street
  • Watching or staring at women who are alone or in groups
  • Making sexually inappropriate comments or catcalling
  • Approaching lone or intoxicated women
  • Invading a woman’s personal space e.g. cuddling, touching, being physically dominating or leading a woman away
  • Approaching a woman at a bar or table and continuing to talk to her despite being asked to leave her alone
  • Stalking or following women
  • Filming or taking photos of women or children
