Salisbury Cathedral choirs looking for new voices

SALISBURY Cathedral is looking for new voices to join its teenage choir.

Although particularly looking for tenors and basses, singers of all ages and genders are welcome to expand the group’s current, 22-person roster.

The choir performs at concerts and religious services singing sacred, popular and classical music, in Salisbury and beyond.

Alongside the Youth Choir, for 13 to 18-year-olds, the cathedral also offers a Junior Choir for under 13s and a Chamber Choir for those who are 18 and over.

Choral director, Steve Abbott, who was previously a music teacher at Bishop Wordsworth school, said: “Although a non-auditioned choir, singing standards are impressively high.

“The social mix and age range of the choir is wide; from home-schooled students for whom the choir is an important link into the community, to former choristers continuing their singing careers after leaving the cathedral choir at 13.”
