WILTSHIRE has an abundance of picturesque towns and villages – but a new list has ranked the very best locations for people to live.
Muddy Stilettos has released its 2025 ranking, with each area voted for using an online poll and recommendations.
Salisbury has been ranked in fifth place, beating out Corsham, Chippenham and Tisbury.
Wiltshire’s only city is described as “where medieval splendour meets contemporary cool, with access to culture, countryside and excellent schools.”
The Market Square was praised for hosting festivals and markets, while the city’s vast array of independent shops were highlighted for providing top quality finds.
Some of Salisbury’s top eateries were mentioned in the list, from fine dining at Allium, a Mexican bar and restaurant Tinga and “cool kids” on the block, Nole Pizza.
The city’s community spirit was also in the spotlight. Muddy Stilettos said: “The summer season sees al fresco cinema and theatre come to locations including Churchill Gardens, Salisbury Cathedral and Arundells.

“The city’s annual funfair also attracts hordes to the market square every October. For serious family friendly vibes, take the kids to the annual Chalke Valley History Festival.
“They can do everything from exploring a Second World War trench to being transported to the Victorian ‘Wild West.’ Of course, there’s tons there for adults too.”
They added: “Salisbury Playhouse Theatre, Salisbury Arts Centre and Salisbury International Arts Festival all now come under the banner of Wiltshire Creative.
“The upshot? A cracking year-round calendar of high-quality entertainment, from film to comedy, theatre, art and dance.”
