SALISBURY Racecourse presents its latest race meeting on Friday evening (August 29), complete with six races; four handicaps and two novice races.

Kicking off the action is an amateur jockey’s handicap, run over a mile (5.13pm). Rod Millman’s Silent Flame might be a good option here, stepping up significantly in trip from six furlongs, which is an intriguing move.
Stablemate Ajrad is the safer choice, well proven and successful over a mile. Beau Jardine could be in with an each-way chance having come a further pound down the handicap.
Next is a two-year-olds’ six-furlong novice (5.43pm). Six of the 10 runners are debutants, so this race could go a number of ways, though Pilu and Evie Ross – both winners already – clearly make some appeal.
Ralph Beckett’s filly Alarming could turn out to be smart, but will have to be spot on for her first run with Pilu in the mix.
Staying with the juveniles, race three is a mile nursery handicap (6.13pm). Archie Watson’s Project Incheon makes some appeal in first-time cheekpieces after a career best performance on handicap debut at Kempton earlier this month, but Emma Lavelle’s Torbay is the pick here having run well over a mile on the all-weather last time and could take a step forward back on turf.
Our fourth race is a three-year-olds’ mile handicap (6.43pm). Willie Haggas’ Mamma Mia tries to make it back-to-back wins, while Time After Time seeks a hat-trick for Heather Main, having not been too heavily penalised for her last win at Haydock.
Marcus Tregoning’s Little She might run better than the market will likely expect, given her good course record and falling handicap mark. Pay Attention is hard to look past though, back down in trip and on his last winning mark, given seven pounds by Ashley Lewis.
The penultimate race is a novice contest over a mile and a quarter (7.13pm). Brian Meehan’s Hellion and Harry Fry’s Soul Limbo are the newcomers here, with the former making the most appeal of the two, but James Ferguson’s Explode is hard to see past, having picked up places on each of his starts so far, including over this trip. He makes his turf debut here, but certainly has the best form on show by some way.
Lastly, we have a handicap run over a mile and three quarters to round off the evening’s proceedings (7.43pm). Polly Gundry’s dual-purpose Sweet Nightingale might be in with a shout here, as she is proven to stay in the National Hunt code, so could improve for a step up in trip on the Flat.
She will have to work hard to get past Taritino, though, who may be top weight, but is very capable over these longer trips and may find this fairly easy. That said, the seven pounds given to joint top weight Kotari by his claiming rider may be the deciding factor.
