SALISBURY Racecourse presents its latest meeting on Wednesday afternoon (July 23) with a six-race card, consisting of two novice races and four handicaps.

First up is a seven-furlong Amateur Jockeys’ handicap (2.15pm).
With a well-populated field of 13, this is a fairly competitive race; Endowed seeks a hat-trick, while Guiteau, Bated Breeze, Monks Head and Letter Of The Law all placed last time out and will be aiming to get further to the front this time.
The Cola Brasil looks to have dipped down to a tempting mark and is given a handy seven pounds by his rider, so he could sneak to the fore here.
The second race is a six-furlong novice contest for two-year-olds (2.50pm).
Just four of the 10 runners have been seen before; Bone Marra and Inca Heights are both winners already, while Crown Of Light and Darkest Red look likelier types for handicaps later in the season.
Andrew Balding’s colt, newcomer Assiri Heights, owned by Juddmonte, was a very expensive yearling purchase with a top-class pedigree, so he should be the best on paper.
We stay with the two-year-olds for race three, a fillies’ novice over six furlongs (3.20pm).
Lope El Fuego is the best of those with form, having won impressively when last seen at Newbury, but she does carry a penalty as a result, so the likes of Ollie Sangster’s Piazza might get the better of her today.
With plenty of smart pedigrees on show here, it wouldn’t be wise to discount any of the debutants if the market moves in their favour, but they will have to be foot-perfect to beat Piazza first time out.
A three-year-old’ mile handicap follows (3.50pm). Despite the small field of seven, this looks a tight contest with plenty of good recent form on display; Kodi Fire won when last seen at Brighton, while Jarham, Moutai and Opening Bat all placed upon their last performances.
Kodi Fire steps up in class here and looks capable of running another big race. Opening Bat also should be in there with a solid chance, having been very consistent this term so far, and has only been raised a pound since finishing a close third at Newmarket.
The penultimate race is a five-furlong handicap (4.20pm). Phoenix Moon may prove to be well treated here, down two pounds from last time and given a further seven pounds by his claiming rider.
The consistently good Darkened Edge also looks worth considering, having dropped a pound since last time and ridden once again by Gina Mangan, with whom he has a good partnership.
Finally, the afternoon’s racing concludes with a mile and three-quarter handicap (4.53). Up in trip again from a mile and a half last time, Ralph Beckett’s New York Minute looks to improve for the extra distance and could go well, having not been beaten too far when last seen.
Navid also may feel the benefit of the extra two furlongs, while Media Mogul is the best proven over course and distance, but must bounce back from a disappointing performance last time.
