SALISBURY will honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice at a Remembrance Sunday Service.
The annual gathering will take place at the War Memorial, in Guildhall Square, led by the Salisbury Branch of the Royal British Legion and supported by Salisbury City Council and St Thomas’s Church.
At 10.30am, the parade will march from Avon Approach to the square, with participants and the public gathering at the War Memorial at 10.50am for a small ceremony, including the two-minute silence at 11am, followed by prayers.
The parade will then march along New Canal, where Lord Lieutenant Sarah Troughton, accompanied by the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Dr Olivia Chapple, and The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Salisbury, Cllr Sven Hocking, will take the salute.
The parade will process to St Thomas’s Church for the Sunday Service at 11.40am, before the Civic Party processes back to Salisbury Guildhall via St Thomas’s Square.
To ensure crowd and parade participants’ safety, Blue Boar Row and other roads along the parade route will be closed to traffic from 10.30am to 11.45am and again from 12.15pm to 1.30pm. Traffic diversions will be in place.
Road closures may affect certain bus routes. Anyone planning to take the bus should check timetables on the Salisbury Reds website at www.salisburyreds.co.uk before starting the journey.
Then, on Monday (November 11), there will be a small ceremony in the Guildhall Square at 11am to mark Armistice Day.
