EXPLORERS from Amesbury Scout Group have completed a demanding two-day expedition for their Platinum Award – battling heavy rain and low cloud to clock up an impressive 37km on foot.
The group set up camp in the grounds of Pewsey Scout Hut after trekking 19km on day one of the challenge.
But overnight, conditions took a turn for the worse, with persistent rain and overcast skies greeting them for the second leg of their journey.
So poor was the visibility that the White Horse above Alton Barnes was completely hidden from view, adding what the group described as a “mysterious and adventurous feel” to the expedition.
Despite the soggy conditions, the Explorers pressed on, covering a further 18km on day two to bring their total distance to 37km (23 miles).

The expedition marked a special milestone for one member in particular.
At the end of the challenge, Luke was presented with his Platinum Award, having already completed all other elements required for the prestigious scouting honour.
The award recognises commitment, resilience and achievement, and leaders said the expedition demonstrated the group’s endurance and teamwork.

The two-day adventure tested not only navigation and camping skills, but also determination in the face of challenging weather.

Reflecting on the experience, the group said they would carry forward both the memories of the expedition and the pride of completing a significant milestone in their scouting journey.
For Amesbury’s Explorers, it was a weekend defined not by the rain clouds overhead, but by perseverance, teamwork and a sense of achievement earned step by step.
