Stonehenge closes to the public for secret filming

RUMOURS have been circulating after a stage was seen being built next to the neolithic stones at Stonehenge yesterday (August 20).

The stones were reportedly closed to the public from 5pm as film crews worked to construct a band stage next to the site.

While suggestions were made that the site was closed for filming for Taskmaster, which is currently collaborating with English Heritage sites throughout the country to set visitors “silly challenges”, it is believed that the filming was actually for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

The film is an upcoming American mockumentary comedy film directed by Rob Reiner and follows on from the 1984 film This Is Spinal Tap.

The upcoming film is set around 40 years after the first film, as film director Martin Di Bergi creates another video documentary of the reunion and final show of the legendary spoof heavy metal band Spinal Tap.

According to The Sun, film crews “have set up camp in Stonehenge and are working on the project all week.”

The connection to Stonehenge comes from a scene in the first film, where the band mistakenly orders an 18-inch model of the stones for a music video rather than an 18-foot replica.

The filming comes just a month after Spinal Tap and Elton John released a new video for their song, Stonehenge.

English Heritage has been contacted for comment.

Spinal Tap II is said to be released on September 12, with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer all reprising their roles in the band — Nigel Tufnel, David St Hubbins and Derek Smalls.
