Tickets being snapped up for 11th Celebrate Voice festival in Salisbury

THE 11th Celebrate Voice Festival is heading for another record year, according to organisers.

Salisbury’s international festival, which runs from October 30 to November 9, boasts a stellar line-up of vocal dexterity – and has attracted its biggest audiences to date.

Among the events nearing sell-out status are world-renowned choir Tenebrae, jazz award-winner Elaine Delmar, and a new concert-play by Mozart.

Meanwhile, the starry cast of the new Sondheim show, Putting It Together, are currently rehearsing in London featuring music theatre stars such as multi-Olivier Award winner Janie Dee, Nigel Richards (Phantom at Her Majesty’s Theatre) and Amara Okereke (Liza Doolittle, London Coliseum).

Opera singers have also arrived in Salisbury from all over the UK to rehearse the festival’s brand-new production of the Donizetti comedy, The Elixir of Love (November 1, 6 and 9) and stay with local host families, fully immersed in Salisbury life.

Festival director, Lynsey Docherty, said: “It is such a coup to bring artists of this calibre to Salisbury, to create brand new productions, and give audiences the chance to have a visceral experience in intimate and historic settings.

“Our audiences absolutely love being so uniquely close to the performers.”

Elsewhere, Bafta nominee Rachel Parris brings her signature blend of comedy and song, fresh from her viral appearances on TV’s The Mash Report (November 8), while theatre lovers have the chance to see Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s best actor, Gerard Logan, perform a moving one-man show about Oscar Wilde’s harrowing time in prison, alongside The Ballad of Reading Gaol.

For those who love to take part, Belt Out the Broadway provides giant lyrics, pro West End singers and a live band to belt out the very best music theatre songs.

The festival also has special events for little ones and their adults, including the award-winning show for kids, The Mighty Beatbox Comedy Show, and workshops led by top musicians for people with dementia, as well as a whole day of fun for young adults with SEND and leading opera singers.

All events take place at Salisbury Guildhall in a partnership with Salisbury City Council, with the exception of Tenebrae, held at St Thomas’s Church.
