A NEW poll has revealed that the Conservatives could lose their hold on Salisbury if a general election was held now.
The Salisbury constituency has firmly been in the grip of the Tories since the 1920s – with the current MP John Glen remaining in power since he was first elected in 2010.
But the city could be set for a shake-up at the next general election, as a new MRP poll by YouGov predicts that the Tories could lose out to the Liberal Democrats.
The Lib Dems came third in Salisbury in the general election last year, beaten to second place by Labour who received some 4,000 votes less than the Tories.
The Lib Dems also became the largest party on Salisbury City Council after voters went to the poll in May, with 10 councillors elected – and the party managed to wrestle control of Wiltshire Council from the Conservatives after 25 years.

According to YouGov, the Lib Dems are set to receive 29% of the vote share, the Conservatives 25% and Reform UK would receive 22%.
While the poll predicts a two-horse race between the Lib Dems and the Conservatives, Nigel Farage will be eyeing up the constituency after nearby East Wiltshire now has a Reform UK MP following Danny Kruger’s defection from the Conservatives.
Reform UK would also be within touching distance of winning a parliamentary majority across the UK, with the poll predicting Nigel Farage’s party to win 311 seats – just 15 seats short of an absolute majority and an increase of 40 seats from last year’s election.
