Scooters hit the paths at Salisbury River Park as part of special event

SCOOTERS took to the paths of the Salisbury River Park this month as part of a special event celebrating older people.

On October 8, Salisbury Shopmobility customers, volunteers and staff set out on a River Park Scooter Scoot, as part of the Silver Salisbury Festival.

The group first took in the area between the Maltings and Ashley Road, before meeting up with Polly and Charley from Wildlife and Wellbeing, who explained about various birds, insects, fish, water voles and trees that might be spotted.

This was followed by a ‘mindfulness moment’, where participants stopped and used their five senses to take in the surrounding environment.

A visit was also paid to the River Park Kiosk, near Coldharbour Lane, where refreshments including hot chocolate, coffee, ice cream and soft drinks were served.

Vicky Goodwright, Salisbury Shopmobility manager, said: “Seeing people with limited mobility enjoying being out in the open air and accessing their local surroundings makes it all so worthwhile.

“I will now be preparing the next Scooter Scoot outing for the spring months of 2027.”

Shopmobility’s Scooter Scoots are themed, guided outings for people with limited mobility that follow an accessible route, accompanied by Shopmobility staff and volunteers.

Salisbury Shopmobility helps people keep their independence by hiring mobility equipment. Annual membership is £10 and hire charges start from £5.50. Call 01722 328068 for more information.
