Apartments plan for former Salisbury kitchen and bathroom showroom

A FORMER landmark kitchens and bathrooms showroom in Salisbury could be converted into apartments if plans are approved.

Allen Planning Ltd has submitted a proposal to Wiltshire Council on behalf of Ms E Maurin for buildings to the rear of 35 Rollestone Street.

The plot was formerly home to a showroom for kitchen and bathroom firm, Jones Company, which moved to new premises in 2000.

Plans submitted would see the single-storey buildings to the rear of the site converted into four apartments, changing the use of the building from business to residential.

“The site is highly sustainable, being within easy walking distance of all the city’s shops, public transport opportunities and other services,” it said.

It added: “These buildings have been vacant for a number of years, adding nothing to the sustainability of the area and it is submitted their conversion to residential would not harm the sustainability of this Conservation Area, or indeed for that matter the wider city centre.”

Two one-bed and two two-bed apartments would be developed on the site if plans are approved, the application said.

A separate application also proposes the conversion of the two-storey shop front into another four apartments.
