Ashley Sherred guilty of driving car at man in Salisbury street after wheel spins and handbrake turns

ASHLEY Sherred has admitted driving his car at a man who complained about him performing handbrake turns and wheel spins in a Salisbury street.

The 33-year-old, of Southampton Road, Salisbury, admitted grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving during a hearing at Salisbury Crown Court on Thursday (June 12) and has been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing, set for August 8.

The charges came after, on May 10, Sherred was seen driving recklessly in a blue Ford Fiesta in Pinewood Close, doing wheel spins and handbrake turns.

When the victim, a resident in Pinewood Close, came out of his property to see what was happening and to take issue with the dramatic driving, Sherred deliberately mounted the pavement and hit him, leaving the man, in his 40s, with a broken leg.

Sherred fled the scene, but was located by officers later that day and arrested, while the vehicle was found the following day in a residential road. Sherred was charged with the offences and remanded into custody.

Investigating officer T/DC Dan Smith, from South CID, said: “This was a senseless act of violence that left the victim with significant injuries, and it could have been a lot worse.

“I’d like to thank all of those who have come forward and assisted with this investigation which has brought about the guilty pleas.

“Sherred has now been remanded into custody ahead of being sentenced in August.

“I hope this guilty plea begins to bring some sense of closure to the victim and his family and that this sends a clear message that we will not tolerate this type of violence in Wiltshire.”
