Firefighters put out grain silo fire using 60,000 litres of water

AROUND 60,000 litres of water was used to flood a fire in a grain silo.

The incident unfolded in Tytherley Road area of Winterslow, near Salisbury, at just after 12.50pm yesterday (March 6).

“Upon arrival, firefighters got to work formulating a plan to try and extinguish the grain within the seven metre-wide silo by flooding it with around 60,000 litres of water,” a Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.

A watercarrier appliance from Wilton was sent to the scene and firefighters remained on site to ensure the fire was out.
