Gas leak caused road closure in Salisbury that led to traffic chaos

A GAS leak was behind the shock closure of a main route through Salisbury this morning.

The leak saw Devizes road closed to motorists early this morning, with drivers facing congestion as they approached.

During the chaos, a lorry became stuck in Meadow Road, before eventually navigating its way out and allowing traffic to flow once more.

It has since emerged the closure was caused by the discovery of a gas leak, with emergency work being carried out by SGN.

The closure order is in place until April 2, though it is not known when work will be completed.
