Notices served on unauthorised encampment in Salisbury as social media video circulates

LEGAL notices have already been served on an unauthorised encampment in Salisbury.

Police said the gathering, initially at the Park and Ride in Downton, has now moved to private land off Britford Lane.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Legal notices have already been served and our officers are continuing to work closely with Salisbury City Council and Wiltshire Council to manage the situation.

“We want to reassure the public that this is the same encampment previously reported and there are not multiple groups or additional encampments currently in the local area.

“We are also aware of a video currently circulating on social media in relation to the encampment. We would like to remind the public that all reported offences will be reviewed and dealt with accordingly.”

They said there was currently “no information to suggest there is any link between this group and recent disorder reported in Wilton” on July 22.

“We are also advising local farmers and landowners to protect their property, such as securing gates and access routes where possible,” the spokesperson added.

“We appreciate the concerns of the local community and we are continuing to monitor the situation closely, working within the legal framework to seek a resolution.”

Anyone with specific concerns should report them via 101 or 999 in an emergency.
