SALISBURY Racecourse presents us with a seven-race card on Wednesday afternoon (June 25), bringing some high-class runners to the fore.
Up first are the two-year-olds in a seven-furlong maiden (2.25). Two of the five runners have previous form, Island Bear and Victorious One, both having placed second on debut, but in these conditions, Victorious One may prove to be just that.
Henry Candy’s Labiche is well-related and should be one to keep an eye on, while Lord Cloughan is beautifully bred and could make an impact on debut at this track, where his trainer has a very strong strike rate of 24%.
A veteran’s race is next, run over five furlongs (2.55). All of the five runners are aged six and over, with the best recent form being brought by Street Life, who has finished within the top three in his last five starts, pushing him up to what is probably an unrealistic mark this time.
Faustus is tried in blinkers for the first time, but given that both a visor and cheekpieces have lost their efficacy on him over the last couple of seasons, a change of headgear doesn’t promise much. Down to a workable mark, Coup De Force may be the winner today.

The third race is a two-year-olds’ restricted novice over six furlongs (3.25). The two newcomers are Twilight Glow and Spacewoman, and both are probably best watched today, though they have plenty of potential based on pedigree.
Wojtek was good on debut over course and distance earlier this month, and the win should be between him and Nifty, though the former colt may get the better of the filly.
A six-furlong handicap follows, with a small but tight field of five runners (3.55).
Montpellier seeks to extend his unbeaten record on his handicap debut, having won both starts this season so far. He steps down in trip, but that is unlikely to inconvenience him.
Kodi Lion won his last start, which puts him on a career high mark, so a best-ever performance is needed today. Noel Fox should be involved at the sharp end too, having run well here last time out over a furlong further.
Race five is a mile and a quarter maiden for horses aged three and over (4.25). The quality of this race isn’t overly strong, but Asmen Warrior in first-time cheekpieces has a solid chance.
He is a consistent type who is rarely beaten far and has what might turn out to be his best chance yet today.
Our penultimate race is a mile and a half three-year-olds handicap (4.58). Another pared-back field of five runners, but a deep one nonetheless with plenty of talent on display.
At the top of the weights is Godolphin’s Tremorgio, the winner of two of his three career starts who should be capable of winning again. Patsy Snugfit might be the one to chase him home.
Lastly, the afternoon is rounded off by a mile handicap (5.35). Starlit Spice ought to be a bit better than her last two runs and might be a revelation in handicaps, having got form only a couple of lengths behind subsequent Epsom Derby Festival winner Formal.
Enrolled also looks capable of a big race as a first-time visitor.
