AN encampment of around 20 vehicles was moved on from Amesbury by police and council officials.

The unauthorised camp, at Bonnymead Park, arrived on Thursday (August 30).

After complaints from residents, Wiltshire Police and Amesbury Town Council liaised with the landowner and those on the site to come to a resolution.

Ultimately, using powers under section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, police directed people and vehicles to leave the area, a spokesperson said.

“(The order) was enforced on Sunday afternoon (September 3) with all persons leaving the site,” a Wiltshire Police spokesperson added.

“Work is now underway with the council to prevent further occurrences happening in future.”
