Wiltshire village named among top 10 picture postcard villages for property price rises

A WILTSHIRE village beloved by celebrities has been named among the ‘picture postcard’ locations that have seen the largest growth in house prices in the last decade.

Lacock has been named the UK’s fifth fastest-rising picture postcard village – where values have soared over the last decade – after research by property management software firm, Alto.

Property values in the village have bucked the overall downturn to shoot up by 55% in the last 10 years – with average prices rising from £249,000 to £386,500.

It comes after three of the Harry Potter movies were filmed in Lacock, when the abbey’s cloisters and rooms doubled up as a Hogwarts corridors and classrooms.

The Alto list detailed picturesque towns and villages which have significantly out-performed the market over the last decade to deliver strong returns for buyers and landlords.

On top was Fowey, a Cornish harbour community, with prices up by 67% in the last 10 years – rising from £350,000 to £585,000.

Hathersage, in Derbyshire, was second (up 63%), with Weobley in Herefordshire third (up 57%).

Alto CEO, Riccardo Iannucci-Dawson, said while the locations had been hit by a recent property downturn, they maintain and grow value over the long-term due to their enduring appeal.

“Even in a depressed property market you will find bubbles which out perform other areas because they are gorgeous places to live,” he said.

“Lacock is one such place, along with all the others in the top 10.”
