Plans to convert Salisbury dance studio into five homes given green light

A FORMER dance studio in Salisbury is set to be knocked down and replaced with five new homes following the approval of plans.

Previously approved plans for the brownfield site at 59A Park Street included converting the existing building into six houses, but these plans have not yet been implemented.

Instead, the applicant submitted new plans which would see the building demolished and a replacement building erected in its place that would be divided into five houses.

The houses would all be two-bed, with each having a small outdoor patio. No parking has been provided in the plans.

The dance studio closed back in the summer of last year, and the building has been vacant since.

Atlas Planning Group, who submitted the plans on behalf of the applicant, said: “The scheme not only addresses some of the urgent housing supply shortfall but also improves upon the design and quality of the built environment by removing an incongruous building.”

The plans were approved yesterday (June 24).

In the decision notice, the case officer said: “No neighbours would be adversely impacted, and the application is fully acceptable from a highway standpoint.”

They added: “A car-free development is acceptable in this city centre location, and suitable bike storage can be secured by condition.

“The proposed development is certainly more favourable than the fallback position provided by the extant consent, which has permission to convert the existing dwelling into six units.”

Salisbury City Council objected to the development over fears of overdevelopment in the area as well as the lack of car parking.
