HOUSEHOLDS in Salisbury and the surrounding area are being urged to be on their guard after a spate of burglaries.
Wiltshire Police said they were warning residents “to take extra measures to keep their properties safe” following a number of incidents in Amesbury, Tidworth and Salisbury between October 8 and 11.
“Officers are carrying out additional patrols in the affected areas to provide reassurance, speak with residents and gather information as part of the ongoing investigations,” a spokesperson said.
Inspector Gavin Brewster added: “Burglary is a horrendous crime. Not only do offenders steal people’s belongings, but they can leave a lasting emotional impact on victims, who are left knowing someone has entered their home and invaded what should be their safe space.
“Prior to these incidents in south Wiltshire, there were a number of similar offences reported over the border in Hampshire. While we cannot say at this stage whether the incidents are linked, we are keeping an open mind and exploring all lines of enquiry.
“We are urging residents to consider what additional measures they can take to protect their homes and to report any suspicious activity to us through our website, or by calling 999 in an emergency.”
Victims of crime or people who see suspicious behaviour can report it through the Wiltshire Police website at https://orlo.uk/szviJ.
