THE Mayor of Wilton has revealed this year’s chosen charity, which will benefit from this year’s fundraising, live on radio this afternoon (August 14).
Councillor Chris Harrison, selected Salisbury Hospice’s “Sponsor a Nurse” campaign as his Mayor’s Appeal charity for the 2026/27 mayoral term.
He made the announcement on Radio Odstock, saying he is looking forward to helping the Hospice make a difference to even more families.
Speaking about the Hospice, Cllr Harrison said: “Every day, Salisbury Hospice nurses support people facing the hardest moments of their lives.
“They care for people coming to terms with their prognosis and support their families to try to make the most of each day. They ease pain, calm fears, answer difficult questions and offer comfort when words are hard to find.
“But their care goes far beyond medicine. They also help families create memories that will be treasured forever – a shared laugh, a birthday, a wedding, or simply a moment of closeness with the people they love. When time becomes precious, these moments can mean everything”.

Salisbury Hospice’s services extend outside of the hospice too. Along with inpatient services, a Community Specialist Palliative Care Team also works to deliver personalised care to patients in their own homes.
The hospice needs over £3 million each year to run all its services and it costs £119 per day for each registered nurse.
78 Wilton residents have had contact with the hospice in the last financial year (2025/26), 72 of these received care from the community palliative care team while six were admitted to the inpatient unit.
In total, there were 407 face-to-face interactions from Wilton residents with hospice services (more than one every day) while there were also 426 telephone interactions.
