A NEW shed has been built – offering a place for people to gather, share friendship and do some good work.
The Fordingbridge Avon Valley Shed is finished and ready to open, with the landmark celebrated during an open day on September 16, featuring a lunch for dozens of members alongside mayor Peter White, town council representatives and two founder members – Malcolm Connolly and Gary Knight.
At the Rec in the sports field, the venue – known as the Shedquarters – will be home to weekly Men’s Shed meetings.

“Thanks were given to all the personnel and organisations who helped the AVS in its formation, including the sports club, the founders, the churches (St Mary’s and the Methodist Chapel), Avon Valley Community Matters, the Green Gram, Fordingbridge Rotary, the Co-op Community Fund and the Town Council,” a spokesperson said.
Various interest groups were represented, including the music, photography, electrical, genealogy, photography, computer and community engagement sections, with information on offer at meetings, held on Wednesday mornings at 9.30am.
“Often groups get together to make music, or talk about cameras, or learn about electronics,” a spokesperson said.
“We’re a friendly crowd, so please feel free to join us and find out more about what we do.”
