POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a recovery pickup truck rammed a police car in Downton last week.
Officers, who suspected that the two male passengers were attempting to steal the truck, approached the vehicle in Downton High Street at around 12.35am last Friday (April 18).
The driver then reversed at speed at the officers’ vehicle before driving off, causing serious damage to the police car which left it in an unusable condition.
The bright yellow truck, which had two orange flashing lights, two windows on the rear of the main cabin, yellow and red reflective stripes on the rear of the truck and a large T-shaped tow bar, then made off eastbound in the direction of Redlynch.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Before the collision, the truck pulled over to let a black car travelling in the opposite direction pass at 12.33am.
“The driver of this vehicle could be a key part of our investigation into identifying the males in the truck.
