STAFF members from a Hampshire care home took on a daredevil challenge to raise money for health charity, Dementia UK.
On September 6, four team members from Cedars Care Home, in Landford, faced their fears during an abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.
The quartet said working at Cedars, and their own personal experiences, meant they see the impact dementia can have on individuals and their families every day – and wanted to do their bit to support the work of Dementia UK.
Cedars’ Memory Lane unit supports people living with dementia and the team said it was close to their hearts and in their minds as they took on the challenge.

Lisa Calvert, administrator at the Cedars, was among those to take on the challenge – with her own dad having recently been diagnosed with dementia.
She said: “What a challenge it was. The weather certainly tested us, with strong winds making the abseil even harder work, but we made it safely to the bottom.
“There was even a little drama along the way when Michelle’s rope got stuck and required a mini rescue mission. Thankfully, everyone survived and there were plenty of laughs afterwards.”

Anish Abraham, general manager at the Cedars, said: “We are extremely proud of Lisa, Michelle and Ann for taking on this challenge. I was also persuaded to take part. The staff and residents have been very supportive.
“We really hope that we can raise lots of money to support the amazing work that Dementia UK does in helping families living with dementia.”
Staff and relatives have supported the quartet through sponsorship, so far raising more than £1,000.
