LETTER: “To call this bar seating is an insult to all the bottoms of Salisbury”

By Lesley Waller, Laverstock and Ford Parish councillor – acting in her personal capacity

I am so angry today.

Having been told by Reds that Blue Boar Row bus stops were operating at full capacity, I hear today that the Harnham bus, Red 5, is being promoted to bus stop N Blue Boar Row from Endless Street whilst the Park and Ride 7 is denied the opportunity of being returned to its original bus stop L on the same parade.

When Fisherton Street was being upgraded, the P&R7 was relocated on a temporary basis to Castle Street outside Tesco, which is perhaps the worst bus stop in the city, with no seating for passengers with mobility needs.

Further, Reds claim that this bar in Endless Street provides seating, but I say this is an insult to all the bottoms of Salisbury.

I further say that Reds must answer the following questions: –

• How many shoppers from the London Road corridor, up to Andover, arrive in Salisbury on the Harnham bus?

• How many tourists arrive in Salisbury on the Harnham bus?

(These passengers bring income to the city businesses and deserve a decent and well-placed, easy-to-find bus stop)

• How many passengers travelling on the P&R7 have a mobility issue due to age or health issues that requires shelter and seating at their city centre bus stop?

I often travel on the P&R7 when it is so full that passengers need to stand. So much so that Reds often use a double-decker bus on this route. I have never seen the Harnham bus full.

This is an absolute disgrace.
