Salisbury FC’s winless run continues as manager says ownership to decide future

3pm, Saturday, September 6. National League South. Tonbridge Angels 3 Salisbury FC 1.

WHITES fans may have the famous Mick McCarthy quote running through their head following yet another loss – “It can’t go on like this can it? It can.”

Salisbury FC remain winless after eight games in the National League South, with the club languishing in 23rd place.

A goal from Salisbury’s Coppin in the 86th minute didn’t come soon enough to stage a comeback, with goals from Unwin, Peart and Grant enough for Tonbridge Angels to walk away with the three points.

In an interview after the game, Salisbury manager Brian Dutton said that three changes were made at the break as he “couldn’t see any running”.

“I was seeing people walk along the pitch or jogging at best. If that’s how you’re going to apply yourself then there’s absolutely every reason why I’m standing here waiting to get our first win.

“That’s on me by the way, I absolutely take full responsibility. This is my group of players. I’ve coached and trained them. It’s early days and it takes time to gel but there’s no excuses. This is on me.

“There’s two outcomes here. Either there’s another coach out there who thinks he can do a better job with this group of players then its over to him.

“Or we have to resolve the situation which could mean moving players on and taking a financial hit and bringing players in that can do what we need.”

He said that the decision will be down to the club’s new owner Ali Alhamad – or the club needs to perform “open heart surgery” and get to the root cause of the problem.

He added: “We didn’t just fail, we failed miserably.”

Dutton said there were no excuses for his side’s loss at the weekend.

“Today, there was no hiding place,” he said. “It was either that we were going to be good enough or we were not – and clearly we weren’t.”

Salisbury FC’s next game is against Laverstock and Ford FC in an FA Cup Qualifying Round at 3pm on Saturday, September 13 at the Raymod McEnhill Stadium.
