Work starts TODAY on new £250,000 pump track in Salisbury

CONSTRUCTION of a new pump track off Western Way in Bemerton in Salisbury is set to start today.

The community pump track would provide a place for people to ride bikes on a looped circuit as they build up speed over the bumps rather than pedalling.

Contractors are on site today (September 15) for the start of construction.

The project is being funded by Wiltshire Council as well as money from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Community involvement was key to the creation of the pump track, as the idea came about after Wiltshire Council asked local people what they want to see near them.

“Local residents, through Community Conversations and the Bemerton Bright Ideas Community Panel, have shown a strong commitment to improving their area, and this project is the latest achievement in that ongoing effort,” Wiltshire Council said.

The area is near a skate park, a playground and Bemerton Heath Harlequins FC.

Once it’s built, Salisbury City Council will take responsibility for maintaining the track.
